IFER Graduate Fellowships provide up to $15,000 annually to support tuition, salary, and supplies. Awards are renewable for up to three years, contingent upon student progress and the availability of funds. IFER funds may not be used for institutional indirect costs (overhead).

Grants are $15,000 per year, renewable for up to three years, based on student progress and funding availability. Funds may not be used for institutional indirect costs (overhead).

Fellows are eligible for an additional $1,000 travel award to present their research at conferences.

IFER Graduate Fellowships support projects that advance the development, validation, or implementation of human-relevant, non-animal methodologies in research, testing, or education. Funding is directed toward innovative scientific methods with the potential to replace animal models while improving scientific outcomes.

Special consideration will be given to proposals demonstrating a strong likelihood of replacing or significantly reducing animal use in research.

Eligibility:

Graduate students (master’s or doctoral level) enrolled in a recognized degree program in the sciences are eligible to apply. Projects must focus on developing non-animal methodologies with the potential to replace or significantly reduce animal use in research, testing, or education.

Application Process:

  1. Pre-Proposal Submission: Submit your application via the IFER online portal by the deadline.
  2. Review: IFER’s Scientific Advisory Board evaluates applications for innovation, alignment with IFER’s mission, and scientific merit.
  3. Invitation for Full Proposal: Selected applicants will be invited to submit a full proposal.
