The nationwide prize honors animal lovers for their sustainable commitment to animals. It is endowed with a total of €7,000 and is awarded by the German Animal Welfare Association together with the brands Pedigree and Whiskas as well as the magazines FUNK UHR and SUPER TV.
"With the German Animal Welfare Award we want to honor people who are animal rights activists with body and soul - i.e. act heroically in everyday life, often sacrifice time and money for animal welfare and put all their energy into the task of making the lives of animals better", says Thomas Schröder, President of the German Animal Welfare Association. The German Animal Welfare Award should not only pay tribute to these everyday heroes, but also support their projects and benefit the animals. Therefore, the award is associated with prize money: First to third places are endowed with a total of 6,000 euros, the prize for animal welfare life's work with a further 1,000 euros. In addition, the readers' prize of the magazines FUNK UHR and Super TV, which is worth 1,000 euros, is awarded.
