The aim of the BMBF funding guideline is to replace further animal experiments with alternative methods in the sense of the 3R concept and to increase the attractiveness of the field of animal experiment replacement methods for researchers, as well as to strengthen the validation, utilization and dissemination of animal experiment alternative methods that have already been developed. The application takes place in German language.

The purpose of the present announcement is to support excellent projects for the development of new processes and methods that serve to replace or reduce the use of animals or to limit the stress on laboratory animals to the absolute minimum (Module I). In addition, projects are funded that support concepts for the dissemination of alternative methods (e.g. the organization of training courses) and strategies for the implementation of alternative methods (Module II).

The application process has two stages.

In the first stage of the process, project outlines are to be submitted to the project sponsor in electronic form via the electronic application system "easy-Online".

In the second stage of the process, the authors of the positively evaluated project outlines are asked to submit a formal application for funding.
