Charité 3R Lecture: recombinant antibodies - improved tools for science and diagnostics

Back to Overview

You are here:

Event for expert public only

online lecture, new date: November 30th, 4 - 5 pm

In research and diagnostics, the ability of antibodies to recognize antigens with extreme precision and reliability is used to study different structures and their interactions. To date, while all antibodies used in therapy are already recombinant, in diagnostics and research, still mostly monoclonal and polyclonal antibodies are used in a vast number of different methods.

A recent publication by the European Reference Laboratory for Alternatives to Animal Testing of the European Commission (EURL ECVAM) now recommends the use of animal-free antibodies - a field of research in which Prof. Dr. Stefan Dübel, Director of Biotechnology at the TU Braunschweig, has been conducting research for many years. He is one of the key scientists in the area of recombinant antibody technologies and has actively contributed to the recommendation as an external expert member of the ESAC working group. Stefan Dübel will explain the background of the EURL ECVAM recommendation and show examples of how recombinant antibodies (rAb) from animal-free production can lead to more robust and reproducible data and thus increase the scientific quality. He will also discuss the current limitations of their use.

Endeavouring into the use of recombinantly produced antibodies combines the aspects of animal welfare and improved research data quality. Thus, Charité 3R likes to inform about this topic and cordially invites you to attend our expert lecture:
