Alternative methods to animal experiments of BMBF
The aim of the BMBF funding guideline is to replace further animal experiments with alternative methods in the sense of the 3R concept and to increase the attractiveness of the field of animal experiment replacement methods for researchers, as well as to strengthen the validation, utilization and dissemination of animal experiment alternative methods that have already been developed. The application takes place in German language.

EXPECTED: ARDF ANNUAL OPEN GRANT PROGRAM
ARDF's Annual Open grant program was established to fund research projects that develop alternative methods to advance science and replace or reduce animal use. Proposals are welcome from any nonprofit educational or research institution worldwide. Proposals are considered in fields of research, testing, or education. The maximum grant is $40,000, with an average 21% funding rate from 2015 to 2021.

Research funding by the GV SOLAS
Members of GV-SOLAS can apply for research funding with a maximum funding amount of max. €25,000 each year. The GV-SOLAS offer to support research projects would like to make a contribution so that ideas for deepening the knowledge of experimental animals can be implemented in a concrete project.

EXPECTED: Foundation set
The set foundation supports a wide range of scientific projects that make a targeted and verifiable contribution to reducing, avoiding or improving animal experiments. The foundation promotes research into the development of alternative methods, but also provides financial support for publications, congresses and events.

EXPECTED: Bf3R research funding in the area of 3R
The funding is aimed in particular at young scientists who would like to implement their ideas as part of a proof-of-concept study in order to collect experimental data for a successful application to larger funding programs (e.g. DFG, BMBF).

EXPECTED: Berlin research award "Alternative methods to animal experiments" of the LAGeSo 2023
Research projects from Berlin or Brandenburg that contribute to avoiding or reducing the use of laboratory animals or to reducing the stress on the animals in animal experiments are funded with up to €30,000. The award by the Landesamtes für Gesundheit und Soziales for 2023 has not yet been published. The information on this page is constantly updated.

EXPECTED: Animal Welfare Research Prize of the BMEL
Methods or procedures are sought that can replace animal experiments or reduce their number. The award is endowed with up to €25,000. Young scientists in particular are encouraged to apply.

EXPECTED: Felix Wankel Animal Welfare Research Award 2023
The prize is awarded for outstanding, experimental and innovative scientific work, the aim or result of which is to replace or limit animal experiments or to promote animal welfare in general. The award is endowed with a maximum of €30,000. The call for applications for 2023 has not yet been published. The information on this page is constantly updated.

EXPECTED: German Animal Welfare Award | Deutscher Tierschutzpreis 2023
The nationwide prize honors animal lovers for their sustainable commitment to animals. It is endowed with a total of €7,000 and is awarded by the German Animal Welfare Association together with the brands Pedigree and Whiskas as well as the magazines FUNK UHR and SUPER TV.

EXPECTED: 3Rs Science Prize 2023
The EPAA aims to promote the development, validation and acceptance of 3Rs alternative approaches (replacement, reduction and refinement of testing on animals). Scientists working on relevant methods for regulatory testing (e.g. safety, efficacy, batch testing) providing an outstanding contribution to the use of the 3Rs may apply for the prize.

EXPECTED: Funding for preclinical confirmatory studies and systematic reviews
The aim of this funding measure is to support the methods and phases of preclinical research in Germany that contribute to increasing the meaningfulness, robustness and reliability of scientific preclinical research results and thus improve their translation towards application.

EXPECTED: Ursula M. Handel Animal Welfare Prize
The DFG awards the prize to researchers who strive to improve animal welfare in research. This includes in particular the development of procedures that contribute to the reduction, refinement and replacement of animal experiments. The prize, worth a total of 80,000 euros, is awarded every two years.

ART 3R Awards aim to support innovative ideas by young scientists for the development and testing of Replacement, Reduction and/or Refinement approaches in animal research. The grant proposals are evaluated by an independent jury and grants of up to 5.000 €.
